Campaign 2007
Dear Neighbor,
With Election Day just around the comer, it's time to
think about who would be the best candidates to serve
our Borough. As neighbors, we all know that Glen
Rock's future is important to our children, our families,
our senior population, and our business community.
We have shared many good times together, and our
children have enjoyed playing together in our town.
We believe the best candidates to represent us are - Mayor John van Keuren, Borough Council President
Mike O'Hagan, and Mary Jane Surrago. They have the experience, integrity, and vision to lead Glen
Rock and to serve you.
Mayor John van Keuren has been a Borough resident for 65 years and is a consulting actuary with
Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He is Chairman of the Municipal Alliance for Prevention of
Alcohol and Drug Abuse and has served as President of the Glen Rock Borough Council and as a
member of the Glen Rock Zoning Board of Adjustment. While John's two children were young, he
volunteered as District Commissioner of the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association, as President of the
Northwest Bergen Soccer Association, and as a Glen Rock soccer coach. He and his wife, Virginia, also
have two grandchildren.
Mike O'Hagan is currently Borough Council President, Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, and
Chairman of the Borough Council's Committee on Underage Drinking. A long-time volunteer coach for
Glen Rock's youth, Mike coordinated a steroid awareness seminar with the Glen Rock High School
Home School Association, and he was appointed by New Jersey State Senator Gigenti to a state-wide
task force on gang violence, resulting in proposed legislation to deal with this issue. Mike is Northeast
Sales Manager of MAGTEK. Mike's wife, Robyn is also an active volunteer in our community, and
their two children are attending Glen Rock schools.
This spring, we asked Mary Jane Surrago to join us as a candidate for Borough Council. She brings
enthusiasm, new ideas, and a different type of expertise to the table. A Board officer of National
Industries for the Blind, a large corporation with annual sales of $500 million, Mary Jane's experience in
corporate ethics, financial accountability, and communications are skill sets that would be immensely
beneficial to the Council. She is a dedicated volunteer in our community as President of the Glen Rock
Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Mary Jane and her late husband, Jim (who was very active in the Glen
Rock Baseball Association), raised two children in Glen Rock.
You deserve the best candidates to serve our Borough - candidates who are dynamic leaders, who are
dedicated volunteers, and who have first-hand experience working with the Borough. Please vote on
November 6,2007. Thank you for your support.
The Committee to Elect John van Keuren, Mike O'Hagan, and Mary Jane Surrago
